Recovery

A process of change through which an individual achieves abstinence and improved health, wellness, and quality of life.
-- National Summit on Recovery Conference Report, 2005

The distinction between treatment and recovery is important. Recoverying from the disease of addiction is a highly individualized experience. Although there is much discussion on the definition of recovery, most go beyond abstience alone to include a full, resilient, healthy life.
