Where to Find Treatment Programs:

SAMHSA's Substance Abuse Treatment Facility Locator - a national directory of drug abuse and alcoholism treatment programs.  This directory can be searched to show the location of treatment programs meeting your search specifications and lists:

  • Private and public facilities that are licensed, certified, or otherwise approved for inclusion by their State substance abuse agency.
  •  Treatment facilities administered by the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Indian Health Service and the Department of Defense.

SAMHSA’s Single-State Substance Abuse Agency Directory – contact your state’s SSA for information on treatment policies in your state.  When communicating with your SSA representative, you might want to ask the following:

  • What are phone numbers for the treatment centers in my area.?
  • What are the eligibility requirements and funding/payment arrangements?
  • Does the treatment center offer residential, day outpatient, intensive outpatient, and/or supported recovery?
  • What are the average lengths of stay at the facility?
  • Does the facility offer family counseling and /or groups?

 

Support/Self Help Groups:

Al-Anon/Alateen Offers support and fellowship to relatives and friends of individuals with alcohol problems

Alcoholics Anonymous - offers support and fellowship to individuals with an alcohol problems through its Twelve Steps program

Marijuana Anonymous – offers support and fellowship to individuals with marijuana problems through its Twelve Steps program

Narcotics Anonymous – offers support and fellowship to individuals with drug problems through its Twelve Steps program

Secular Organizations for Sobriety - non-spiritually-based recovery fellowship crediting the individual for achievement and maintainance of his or her own sobriety.

SMART Recovery - Self-Management And Recovery Training) offers free face-to-face and online groups to help individuals recover from all types of addictive behaviors
